Women’s Empowerment Workshop
What-
The workshop emerged in the year 2017 with the purpose of promoting the empowerment of women working within the farm, fostering self-knowledge and taking responsibility for a better quality of life.
What is empowerment?
“Is a transformation process whereby each woman, little by little or in giant steps, ceases to be the object of history, politics and culture, ceases to be the object of others and becomes the protagonist and subject of her own life. In other words, it is a process through which each woman empowers and develops the awareness of having the right to have rights and to trust in her own capacity to achieve her purposes. This process is necessary if one takes into account the constant deauthorization of the women and the difficulties with which they are found to be able to learn, to feel valued and recognized. “
Marcela Lagarde
The initiative helps us to be supporters of these women who are looking for a change that has become a global trend with names like: #sheforhe, #vivasnosqueremos, #pressforprogress, etc.
Why-
The initiative is for us to become support agents for a change that has turned into aglobal trend with names like: #sheforhe, #vivasnosqueremos, #pressforprogress, etc.
Florsani is one of the main sources of work in the rural area of Malchingui and our workforce is mainly made up of women. The proposed transformations within our workshops focus mainly on the following pillars:
Power structures at work and home
Inequality between women and men
Raising awareness of women of their own value and rights.
Strengthen and promote citizen participation and leadership of women
Who-
In Florsani more than 50% of the staff are women, in Ecuador more than 61% of women in rural areas are engaged in agro-production activities and the floriculture PEA (economically active population) constitutes 16% in the sector of Pedro Moncayo (is where Florsani is located); At the national level, the floriculture PEA in relation to the total agricultural PEA constitutes a total of 3%.
After analyzing this data, we concluded that by providing Empowerment Workshops to the women who work at the company, there will be a greater impact on the community of Malchingui. In addition, the petals of our philosophy would be put into practice: Cultivarse (Self Improvement), Cultivar (Lead by example), Crecer (To evolve) and Compartir (Contribute to every part of the system).
At the start of the workshop, voluntary participation was proposed and 14 women formed a group led by our esteemed colleague and friend, Andrea Salgado. Which explains the following about the workshop:
“The concern to create this space was born to see that women are the ones who support the family on an emotional, mental, spiritual level and that all contribute 100% of their economic income to the family; However, her life, her word, her work, her femininity is despised and devalued. The ignorance of themselves and the true value of their femininity have left them exposed to the abuse of others, themselves and their environment.
The great masters and especially the Master Jesus Christ 2000 years ago defended women from the aggressions they suffered, helping them to regain their dignity and courage, so that in this way they can fully fulfill their wonderful role within humanity as Women and teachers, and those who have decided to be mothers, as the first formers of their children.
In the face of this reality it is important to share and contribute in a natural and progressive way in their self-knowledge and appreciation, from the experiences and needs of each one and the group, in order to cultivate and to become women and teachers free and solidarity. “
Andrea Salgado
